Retaining walls for Mornington Peninsula gardens

Plenty of Mornington Peninsula blocks slope, whether toward the bay, down a hillside or just enough to make a lawn awkward. A well-built retaining wall turns that slope into usable, level ground for lawns, garden beds and outdoor living.

Wall types

The right wall depends on the height, soil, access and the look you want.

  • Natural rock walls and terraced rockwork
  • Timber sleeper walls for garden beds and paths
  • Block and sandstone walls for a cleaner, structured finish
  • Low walls framing garden beds, lawns and pool areas

Drainage comes first

Water pressure behind a wall is one of the most common reasons walls lean or fail. Drainage behind the wall, suitable backfill and a solid footing all matter as much as the visible face.

Before building, we look at where water currently runs on your block and plan the wall so it is directed away safely.

Permits and engineering

Taller walls, or walls near boundaries, buildings or driveways, may need engineering and a building permit. Requirements depend on the height, location and nearby structures. Confirm the relevant approvals with council or a building surveyor before work starts.
